Transfer to a University

If you want to transfer from LSCS to another two or four-year college or university, the key to success - and minimizing stress - is planning ahead. Here are a few basic steps to assist you in staying on track and achieving your transfer goals:

STEP 1:  Meet with an Advisor to Choose the Right Degree Plan

Lone Star College System offers courses and programs to suit the needs of individual students. In keeping with the mission of a community college, the college offers transfer courses, workforce or career programs, and continuing education courses for lifelong learning opportunities. Meet with an advisor or counselor to discuss your transfer options.

STEP 2:  Research Colleges & Universities

It is never to early to start researching the colleges and universities that you would like to transfer to. It will be important for you to find answers to the following types of questions:

• What school is right for me?
• Do I want to attend a small or large college?
• Which schools offer my major?
• What types of financial aid are available to me?
• Where will I live? Will I be required to live on or off campus?
• Does this school offer services to assist me in finding a job? ?

STEP 3:  Complete the Admissions Application on Time

It is suggested that students submit their admissions and financial aid applications to their college or university of choice as early as possible. Every institution has different deadlines, so be sure to look up the specific deadlines for your top choices and give yourself plenty of time to apply. Most universities prefer electronic transcripts as this helps them process your admissions decision and transfer credit in a more expedient fashion.
