Accessing Grammar Modules on the Internet
- Each grammar module has the same basic setup. There are links to the Guidelines, Practice Tests, Test ‘A’ Activities and Test ‘B’ Activities for each module. Worksheets for Test ‘A’ Activities and Test ‘B’ Activities are included.
- To download a module packet, follow these steps. In the address bar of internet explorer, type the address for the Lone Star College–Tomball home page: ( tomball.lonestar.edu )
- Click on the link Student Support.
- Click on the link Services.
- Click on the link Extended Learning Center.
- Click on the link Lone Star College–Tomball Writing Modules.
- On the Writing Modules Web page you will see links to the Web page for the Procedures and How To Sheets, Units, SkillsBank4 lessons sheet, and the Skills Analysis sheet. Each unit has links to the guidelines, practice test, and activities for that unit. Print the SkillsBank4 lesson sheet and Skills Analysis sheet to keep track of your computer tutorial lessons and completed modules.
- Each link will open up a Word 6.0 document. Each document lists the number of pages in that document. You can read the Procedures and How To Sheets, the Guidelines, or the Test Activities on the computer, save the document to a floppy disk, print out the whole document (remember, print jobs are 10 cents per page in the Center), or print only the pages you need.
- Printing certain pages: Under the file menu in MS Word, choose Print. The menu that pops up will give you the option to choose either “current page” or a range of pages. The pages in the module packets are numbered. You can choose the Pages option and enter the numbers of the pages you need to print.
Following are instructions for completing grammar modules.
Please remember to follow your instructor’s directions if they differ from the instructions below.
1. Study the Guidelines that accompany the grammar module.
2. Open the Activities sheet and complete all the tasks listed for one activity.
3. Take the Practice Test:
a. If you score 85% or higher you may take Test A.
b. If you score below 85% you must complete all the tasks listed for one other activity. Then take Test A.
4. To take Test A you:
a. turn all your activity work into the lab assistant
b. show your student ID to the lab assistant
5. If you score 85% or higher on Test A you are finished with the module.
6. If you score below 85% on Test A you must::
a. review your test with an English tutor to identify problem areas
b. complete all the tasks listed for two other activities.
7. To take Test B:
a. turn all your additional activity work into the lab assistant
b. show your student ID to the lab assistant
8. If you score below 80% on Test B report to your instructor for further instructions
9. If you score 80% or higher on Test B you have successfully completed the module
